According to Bhavishya Purana, there is a history of Brahmins that in ancient times, Kanvaya, son of Maharishi Kashyap, had a god daughter named Aryavani. On the orders of Brahma, both the Kurukshetra residents went to the banks of the Saraswati river and started praising Saraswati Devi in Kan and Chaturveda hymns. After a year passed, the goddess was pleased and came there and gave them a boon for the prosperity of the Brahmins.
Gave a boon Under the influence of the groom, Kanvaya had ten sons with Aryan intelligence, whose names were sequentially -
Upadhyay,
Dixit,
Pathak,
Shukla,
Mishra,
Agnihotri,
Dubey,
Tiwari,
Pandey,
And
Chaturvedi.
These people had the same quality as the name. These people had no head and pleased Saraswati Devi. Bhaktvatsala Sharda Devi gave her daughters to those people who were twelve years old. Those were given below:-
Upadhyay,
Dikshita,
Pathaki,
Shuklika,
Mishrani,
Agnihotridhi,
Dwivedini,
tivedini,
Pandyayani,
And
Chaturvedini.
Then those girls have also got sixteen-sixteen sons from their respective husbands.
They were all gotrakars whose names were -
Kashyap,
Bharadwaj,
Vishwamitra,
Gautam,
Jamadagri,
Vasistha,
Vats,
Gautam,
Parashar,
Garg,
Atri,
bhrgadatr,
Angira,
shrangee,
Katyay,
And
Yajnavalkya.
Sixteen-sixteen sons are known by these names.
The main 10 types of Brahmins are-
(1) Tailanga,
(2) Maharashtra,
(3) Gurjar,
(4) Dravid,
(5) Karnatika,
These five are called "Dravina", they are found in the south of Vindhyachal.
AndBrahmins living or living north of Vindhyachal
(1) Saraswat,
(2) Kanyakubja,
(3) Gaur,
(4) Maithil,
(5) Utkalaye,
The Pancha of the North are called Gaur.
There are many Brahmins, whose description is written next.
Such a number is of the main 115. Branch distinctions are many.
Apart from these, there are many hybrid caste Brahmins.
Here I am giving the list of 115 mixed north and south brahmins.
Those who have differentiated from one to two and 2 to 5 and 5 to 10 and 10 to 84, then the number of Brahmins of North and South is about 230 from branch distinction.
And there have been other branch distinctions, which have been found to account for the number of Brahmin distinctions about 300.

Main villages of Saryuparin Brahmins:
Garg (Shukla-vansh)
There are thirteen sons of Garga Rishi who are called Garga Gotriya, Panch Pravariya, Shukla Banshaj who were divided into thirteen villages. The names of the villages are as follows.
(1) Mamkhor (2) Khakhaij Khor (3) Bhendi (4) Bakruan (5) Akoliyan (6) Bharavaliyan (7) Kanil (8) Modhifekara (9) Malhiyan (10) Mahson (11) Mahulyar (12) Budhhat ( 13) There are four villages named Lakhnaura, Munjiyad, Bhandi, and Nauwagaon. Almost all these villages are found in Gorakhpur, Deorian and Basti even today.
Upgarga (Shukla-dynasty)
The six villages of Upgarga which were exemplary of Garga Rishi are as follows.
Barwan (2) Chandan (3) Pichhoran (4) Kadjahan (5) Sedapar (6) Dikshapar
This is basically the village from where the rise of Shukla Bansh is believed, from here people are going elsewhere to uplift the Shukla Bansh, they are all Saryuparin Brahmins.
Gautam (Mishra-dynasty)
Six sons are said to be of Gautam Rishi, who were the residents of these six villages.
(1) Chanchai (2) Madhubani (3) Champa (4) Champaran (5) Vidra (6) Bhatiyari
From these six villages Gautam Gotriya, Tripravriya Mishra dynasty has emerged, from here there has also been a migration elsewhere, they are all Saryuparin Brahmins.
Upa Gautam (Mishra-dynasty)
Upa Gautam i.e. the six villages that follow Gautam are as follows.
(1) Kalidiha (2) Bahudiha (3) Walidiha (4) Bhabhayan (5) Patanade (6) Kapisa
From these villages the origin of Upa Gautam is believed to be a caste.
Vatsa Gotra (Egyptian dynasty)
Vatsa is believed to be the nine sons of the sage who resided in these nine villages.
(1) Gaana (2) Payasi (3) Hariyaya (4) Naghara (5) Aghila (6) Sekhui (7) Peedhara (8) Radhi (9) Makhada
It is said that there was a circulation of theirs, so they are considered equivalent to three.
Kaushik gotra (mixed lineage)
Their origin is said to be from three villages which are as follows.
(1) Dharmapura (2) Sogavari (3) Desi
Vashishta gotra (mixed lineage)
Their residence is also said to be in these three villages.
(1) Battupur Marjani (2) Badhaniya (3) Khausi
Shandilya Gotra (Tiwari, Tripathi clan)
Sage Shandilya is said to have twelve sons who dominate these twelve villages.
(1) Sandi (2) Sohgaura (3) Sanrayan (4) Srijan (5) Dhatura (6) Bhagraich (7) Balua (8) Hardi (9) Jhudiyan (10) Unvalian (11) Lonapar (12) Katiyari, Lonapar It also includes Lonakhar, Kanapar, Chapra.
From these twelve villages today they have developed all around, they are Saryuparin Brahmins. Their gotra is Shri Mukha Shandilya Tri Pravara, in Shri Mukha Shandilya there is prevalence of Gharana in which Ram Gharana, Krishna Gharana, Nath Gharana, Mani Gharana are there, the rise of these four is from Sohgaura Gorakhpur, where even today these four exist.
Upa Shandilya (Tiwari- Tripathi, Vansh)
Their six villages are said to be as follows.
(1) Sheeshwan (2) Chaurihan (3) Chanarwata (4) Jojia (5) Dhakra (6) Kajarvata
Bhargava Gotra (Tiwari or Tripathi clan)
Bhargava sage is said to have four sons, in which four villages are mentioned which are as follows.
(1) Singhanjodi (2) Sotachak (3) Chetian (4) Madanpur
Bharadwaj Gotra (Dubey Dynasty)
The four sons of Bharadwaj Rishi are said to have originated from these four villages.
(1) Bargaiyan (2) Sarar (3) Parahua (4) Garyapar
In these two villages Kanchaniya and Lathiyari are said to be Dubey Gharana which is actually Gautam Mishra but their fathers were Uthatmani and Shankhmani Gautam Mishra respectively but Raja Bodhmal of Vasi (Basti) dug a Pokhara in which the log could not move, at the behest of the king. But both the brothers together ran the log, in which one caught the sleeping part of the log, then the other caught the part of the stick, in which the name of Kanchaniyas and Lathiari was named, due to Dubey's cushion, these people started being called Dubey.
There has been a trend for Dubey of Sarar, so they are considered equal to three.
Savaran gotra (Pandya dynasty)
The three sons of Savaran Rishi are said to have been prevalent there too, who are considered equal to three, whose three villages are as follows.
(1) Indrapur (2) Dilippur (3) Rakhat (Chamroupatti)
Sanket Gotra (Pandya clan of Malav)
The three sons of Sanket Rishi are said to be related to these three villages.
(1) Malav (2) Nachaiyan (3) Chaksaniya
Kashyap gotra (Pandya clan of Triphala)
These three villages are told.
(1) Triphala (2) Madriyan (3) Dhadmarhiya
